Teaching Aids

Students need ways to explore and experiment with the basic elements of the musical language.

The Rhythmic Figure Flash Card Kits provide all the basic rhythmic figures of simple and compound meters, including both notes and rests. The sturdy card stock used has ten cards on each sheet. These kits are one of the most important tools for beginning and transfer students. They are essential for use at lessons, classes, and during home practice.

The Pitch: Grand Staff & Keyboard cards have several features that improve reading skills and comprehension. The front of each card trains students to consult the clef sign in order to identify the pitch of the note. This is accomplished by showing just one staff on the front of each card. By showing the note on the grand staff and locating its position on an 88-note keyboard on the back of each card, students learn to play the right note in the correct octave.

These charts establish the basic pitch vocabulary for piano students, forming a reliable foundation for their music reading, performance, ear training, improvising and composing. They are essential for beginning students and invaluable for transfer students. These seven charts definitely give students that all-important “BIG PICTURE!”

They also save you an enormous amount of time.

These two charts show the definite patterns that occur in polyrhythms. By starting slowly and counting aloud, these patterns become simple and develop the natural flow of these rhythms. Two-against-three, and three-against-four.
