CONFIGURATIONS, Book 1a
Book 1a with optional duets
THE CONFIGURATIONS SERIES (Books 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b)
The 64 solos and duets in this series -
- are implicitly musical and colorful in sound and so will serve as recital material
whenever it is needed.
- are set in a clear but flexible pedagogical plan, and so can be used as study material for
elementary students.
- are easy but musically satisfying, and so can be used for sight playing materials by more
advanced students.
The revised Configuration Series is a strong, enjoyable, carefully organized set of books that are
now supplied with Study and Performance Notes. These additions will guide students to look
past the obvious and find richer meaning and satisfying interpretations through experimenting
and discovery. Encourage your students by using these Study and Performance Notes when
each piece is first assigned. Then follow through with discussions and experiments at
subsequent lessons. In these ways, students will grow into resourceful and imaginative
performers at the piano – which is what we want for each of our students.

Kevin Coan reviews the Jon George Configuration series
Every so often something comes along that is so good you just want to use it for all of your students. For me, that “something” is the Jon George “Configurations” series. When I first discovered the books years ago, I purchased a set for every one of my students. I have waited a long time for these new editions and I am just delighted with them. I plan once again to use them for all of my students. I think other teachers are going to find the same benefits to the books that I have found.
