Dear Mary Gae,

Thank you for your exciting response to our new pedagogy book, Teaching MUSIC...not Notes! (INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC, PART III). We thought everyone would be on vacation, and some of you are! But you still sent in important questions and great reviews of the book. Let's look into the questions first.

Questions & Answers

Why a digital book?

1.    This is a "green book." We shrink our carbon footprint significantly with a digital book.

2.    This is an economical book. Having to publish, stock, and ship a book this size would greatly increase its cost to you.

3.    This is a beautiful book. Those who have downloaded and looked through it are excited by the use of color and the layout. If we were to professionally print the book in color, the cost would be out of reach -- for us and for you.

4.    You don't have to wait for this book. You can download it, save it to your hard drive, and print it quickly and efficiently.

5.     This book can keep growing. We will be adding features to enhance its usefulness to you. Just like software, we can issue updates based on what you want to have included in this book.

How do I download this book?

1.    Go to www.shop.artistryalliance.net and order the book at the 20% discount. (You may need to create a new account if you have not previously purchased anything from the ArtistryAlliance Shopping Cart.) REMEMBER: The 20% discount ends 16 August 2007.

2.    When you complete the purchase of the book, we receive a notice of your order. As soon as possible we then go to the Shopping Cart and release the download to you. The Cart immediately sends you an e-mail that contains your download Access ID. (Your access ID is valid for 7 days, and you can have three tries at downloading the book for your own use. This is in case you experience a problem.)

3.    When you receive this automated e-mail, use the Access ID by following the instructions in the e-mail.

4.    Then the book downloads to your computer.

5.    Before you download the book, we suggest that you open a new folder on your Desktop. Name it INTRODUCTION, PART III, making it easy to find. When your file downloads, immediately save it to this folder. IMPORTANT: Save the file before opening it. Be sure to retain the file extension .pdf so your computer will know what to do with it

6.    Now you can print all or part of the book, whatever you wish.

7.    With High Speed Access, it takes the 9 MB file several minutes to download. With dial-up access, it may take 30 - 40 minutes of uninterrupted download. Don't pick up your phone during the download!

If you have any problems, please e-mail us and we will fix it!

How do I make the download into a book?

The simplest way is to print the book on 3-hole paper and put it in a loose-leaf binder. You may prefer to apply a coil binding instead. If a page gets torn or misplaced, you can go back to your saved file of the book and reprint that page, fresh and new. You can't do that unless it is a digital book!

Readers Respond
Within hours of the book's release questions and comments began arriving. Here are a few:

"I'm speechless...not only is the book the most important pedagogical resource that I've seen in my teaching career, it is BEAUTIFUL!!  The layout is superb, enough white space to make reading it very comfortable, the graphics add the splash of color that makes you want to go to the next page, and the photos are delightful. The eBook format is perfect for this work!"

"Mary Gae George has just released "Introduction to Music--Part III" which is a pedagogy text in downloadable form. It is a 178-page book that explains, in precise detail, the reasons for every phase of the first two parts (the student pages) of "Introduction to Music." I'm in the middle of reading the book, but the first section alone makes the book worth purchasing. "

"The book is attractive and easy to follow. It is full of really practical information.  I'm on a first, quick read-through and then I will go back and take a slower, more thoughtful second look."

Beverly Porter
Canadian composer and teachers

We want to remind you that all the concepts and applications in this book can be used with any course of study.
